Rutland County Council is at Uppingham Market today, and it is at Oakham Market next Wednesday, consulting on its draft budget. In last night's meeting about flooding, they proposed funding two new posts, a flooding officer and one to look at climate change.
Christine Wise is portfolio holder who answered most of the questions last night.
"The previous administration declared a climate emergency. We've gone one step further and put it in as part of the draft corporate strategy and we are hoping to appoint someone to the role of flood officer as well as somebody to the role of sustainability officer to really tackle climate change head on. In some cases there are ways to mitigate some of these flood risks with natural defences rather than it always having to be drains in roads. So, we want to make sure we have a chance to look at that as well."
