Maya, the osprey nesting at Rutland Water has laid her first egg. Rutland Osprey Project say the egg was laid on 30 March, eleven days after Maya and 33/11 returned to the nest at Manton. The online pictures from their Manton Bay nest are clearer than ever this year, thanks to an appeal which raised over £16,000 for new webcams.
The new webcams give a better view and can zoom, pan, and tilt. The new system also incorporates sound, giving a fuller experience and deeper insight into the behaviour of breeding ospreys. When the chicks start food begging, or if there is another osprey intruder nearby, viewers will have a front-row seat. Live pictures from the webcam can be seen at: https://www.lrwt.org.uk/rutlandospreys
