The Government's increased housing target for Rutland was one of the reasons planners felt they had no choice but to approve outline planning for a 63 house development on land south of Meadow Lane in Ryhall last night.
Concerns were raised about flooding, access and increased traffic after assessments were made before Stamford North and Quarry Farm were approved. Councillors chose to refer a decision for Ryhall and Belmesthorpe Parish Council to adopt a popular piece of common land for over 50 years to an independent examiner, after finding the land was under an environmental stewardship scheme for 10 of the last 20 years. Villagers are concerned the land is to be sold and access will be lost, despite a footpath running through it, and are trying to adopt it as a village green.
