Letters have begun to be sent out in Rutland advising householders of the changes in bin collections taking place at the end of next month with new food caddies on the way and smaller black bins.
Rutland County Council says you can request to keep your large black bin if you need it, otherwise they'll swap it in a few weeks time when they do the regular collections. Portfolio holder for transport, environment and communities, Councillor Christine Wise, says it's been shown reducing the size of the black bin at other councils encourages the right bin use.
"People will no longer need as much room in their black bin because they won't have food waste in it. We are reducing the size of the black bin, which a lot of people have said to me, "Oh, thank goodness for that, mine's far too big, I never even half fill it." There will be some people with medical needs, very young children, etc, who will still need the bigger bins, and if they have not already got an arrangement with the council, they can contact the council and that will be arranged."
