Police are encouraging drivers to keep thinking bike
after a woman from Rutland received a suspended sentence yesterday after she pleaded guilty to causing the death of a motorcyclist at Witham-on-the Hill in March last year. 35 year old Lucy Bentley from Greetham pulled into the path of a biker. He was on the main road as she pulled out from the village junction. 61 year old Gary Skellet, an experienced motorcyclist, died at the scene. She said she saw other vehicles approaching but not this biker. Officers say this happens far too often and tragedies like this need to be prevented. Bentley of Begy Gardens was sentenced at Lincoln Magistrates Court yesterday to eight months imprisonment suspended for 18 months having admitted causing death by careless driving. She must also undertake 20 days of community rehabilitation activities and was banned from driving for a total of two years and must take an extended re-test before being allowed to drive again.
