The owners of Empingham village shop hope there'll be another shop in the village soon - 15 Church Street is being marketed noting its heritage as a long established village stores.
The owners of Empingham’s village shop hope there will be another shop in the village sometime soon for the benefit of the community, after they closed their doors on Church Street yesterday afternoon, following 58 years of trading in the village. Barbara’s Store say they were forced to close, as their landlord hasn’t offered them a viable alternative, only a deal which sees an increase in rent. They chose instead to move out and receive a financial settlement. The property is being marketed as a retail premises with a new lease, with some internal alterations proposed, and noting the history of a long established village stores. Villagers surprised Barbara’s Store on Sunday with thank you cards and gifts, including pictures of the building. Martyn Prior and Wendy Pickering, along with their Mum Barbara would like to thank everyone who’s supported them over nearly six decades of trade
‘We'd like to thank all our customers and passing trade and a lot of our customers have known me and Martin before we've even been born. And they're not just customers anymore, they're friends. And we just hope that soon there will be another village shop for them to keep them going, you know, and then support that shop.'
