A banner's being produced this afternoon featuring the hands of users of the facility as Rutland County Council's Living Well team undertake their second drop in there.
The council says it was hoping to convert the building to accommodate the new community facility, but costs have spiralled over budget and they're looking at alternative ways of providing library services in the east of Rutland. The production of the banner begins at half past three this afternoon, and everyone's invited to place their hand on it. Charlotte Davis from Save Ryhall Library says they're exploring the community taking over the facility, but for now it's about locals getting involved in the Rutland County Council consultation and showing the strength of support for the library.
"Our fear is that we may not get what we want and that's to keep the library as it is. So we've been looking at other options and interestingly Leicestershire and Lincolnshire have already gone down that road. They have quite a number of community managed libraries we've been visiting, they've been incredibly helpful passing on their paperwork, how their finances work, and actually it's been quite an inspiration because what they can offer as a community library is quite much more than we've ever had under RCC. A lot of positivity there in some ways, but we're still going to fight."
