The first meeting of a new Friends of Stamford Museum Group takes place this evening, following a launch event by Stamford Town Council last week, to show it’s plans for a museum in the Town Hall.
It's 50 years since a similar group was formed to support the work of moving the collection out of the library to the building on Broad Street, which was the former School of Art and is now the home of Welland School of Dancing. It stopped being a museum in 2011.
The new museum group is currently writing bids for new funders, including the Heritage Lottery Fund, after architects backedTown Hall, which will still be the home of Stamford Town Council.
Tonight's meeting of the Friends Group is in the Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre Lounge and begins at 6pm.
