The final few days of preparation are underway for this year's Global Bird Fair at Rutland Water.
The event at Lyndon Top brings together wildlife fans from around the world this year as far as Australia. The three day event features, lectures, art, tourism, and next Sunday, particularly, towards local families and young conservationists. Tim Appleton, founder of the original and also the Global Bird Fair says it really is a unique event despite being imitated around the world in many locations.
"I think the first thing to point out it's a bird fair, it is not caged birds. There's no live birds here at all. Although of course you can see birds because we do ringing sessions, et cetera. Generally, it's a way of demonstrating the breadth of nature. So there are organisations like The Bug Life. There's Dragonfly people, there's Plant Life, there's Greenpeace, there's every conceivable type of interesting nature is here in some form or other. But of course there's a commercial side as well. You can come and buy clothing, outdoor clothing. You can come and book your holidays, whether it's in New Zealand or Argentina or wherever.
There are probably at least 70 different countries exhibiting even as far as Mongolia. This is such an important fair globally."
