The announcement by the government that the Environment Agency is to regularly test water quality at Whitwell Creek and Sykes Lane beach doesn't change the policy of controlled open water swimming and bathing at the reservoir, but it does mean official recognition for what's been happening internally.
Rutland Water is not going to be a free for all for wild swimming any time soon, says the team there who are celebrating their new blue flag status for water quality testing. It’s been announced that the Environment Agency will be carrying out regular tests at Whitwell Creek and Sykes Lane Beach at Empingham from this season. General Manager of Rutland Water Park Will Kirstein says it’s great recognition of the work they’ve been doing for years now, and to have an independent body test the water quality should give those who use the water even more confidence in it. He says swimming in the reservoir will remain in supervised and lifeguarded sessions only:
