Today marks the start of the new season at Burghley House, near Stamford, which means the stately home itself reopens to visitors and the South Gardens are open for the next five weeks.
They're also raising money for the Evergreen Care Trust by opening this part of the grounds not normally available to the public. A new exhibition is also launching. Botanic Tapestry is an avenue of flags forming a grand processional route through Burghley South Gardens set against the dramatic south facade of Burghley House. The installation's been designed for Burghley and will move to the Sculpture Gardens in late April. Artist and curator at Burghley Mark Beatty, who now heads up that area, says it's an added attraction to their reopening.
"It's an artwork that's bespoke to Burghley. It's inspired by the flowers in the garden, the animals from the garden, the insects. And really it's to bring something fresh, bright, and some positivity to the springtime and experience in the South Gardens for this month."
