Despite the card readers being present, card payments have not been available at Stamford’s council run ticket machines, limiting users to cash or a phone app; until now, that is. Following a recent upgrade to the machines, motorists are now able to pay for the car park by cash, card, or contactless payment.
Stamford’s council run car parks have finally been upgraded to allow card and contactless payment, as well as cash. The previous Phone and Pay system has been discontinued. South Kesteven District Council say that they have done it for the convenience of car park users:
"This is a genuine focus on convenience for the motorist.” Cabinet Member Cllr Mark Whittington said, “By providing a contactless and card option we are helping to reduce any queues around ticketing machines and also help people struggling for the correct change at a time when many people prefer not to use cash in a post-Covid world.”
SKDC operate 14 car parks across the district. The six car parks in Stamford (North Street, Bath Row, St Leonards Street, Scotgate, Wharf Road and Cattle Market) and five in Grantham have all been upgraded. The remaining car parks in Bourne and Deeping are free to park in.
