Ketton deserves to retain its regular bus services, says a villager who set up a petition against proposal
to replace the R5 with dynamic demand led public transport at least off peak. Mary Cade has already collected over 100 signatures and hopes to present her petition to Rutland County Council before the next full council meeting in the new year. She says, as the third largest conurbation in Rutland and with a large elderly population, it's the wrong decision and she fears this will reduce their links to Stamford rather than improve them.
‘I think for Ketton, which has a large older population, actually higher percentage than the rest of Rutland, which is already higher percentage than the rest of the country, they need to be connected to Stamford. Not Oakham necessarily, but Stamford for social events, for just an opportunity to get out and even the bus journey itself is a social event. So to actually expect them to work out or to use technology to get demand responsive buses which are basically called Connect. I think it's a big ask’.
